Several poker players are getting confused when they try to calculate the amount of rakeback they have earn. Many of them do not understand how their rakeback is calculated by poker rooms. However there are three different methods that any poker room will use to calculate poker rakeback.
Any poker room has got what we call `monthly gross rake` (MGR) which is the gross profit that each poker room earns when any player play online poker. This amount is what will determine rakeback. For example, if an online poker room`s way of determining MGR shows that a player has earned $1000 and that particular player gets 35% rakeback, then that particular player will receive $350. In other words this shows that it is not rakeback that is calculated but rather it is the MGR since every player receives this rakeback after the MGR has been determined. One of the methods that a poker room calculates rakeback is what is known as the `dealt` method which is actually the simplest of the three. For instance if there was a rake that has been taken from a pot and a player has been dealt in that hand, then he/she will earn rakeback.
Another method of calculating rakeback is the `average contributed` method. This type of calculation does not require a player to be dealt with only but also they have to contribute to the pot at some time in the game. It doesn`t matter whether the player has folded the small blind. It is difficult to explain this method but it is more understood when an example is used when explaining. An example in this method is if 10 players have been dealt in a hand but out of this only six contribute to the pot that is raked at $3.00, then each player will get $3.00/6 players which are equivalent to ($0.50).
The last method of calculating rakeback is more similar to the average contributed method above. The difference is that in the `weighted contributed` method the MGR is seen as being directly proportional to the total money each player has contributed to the pot. Each of these methods has got its advantages and disadvantages and it should also be noted that each poker room always uses the same method of calculation while they calculate each players` rakeback earnings. What changes here is if a poker room is sold to another company so it is upon the buyer to determine the best method to calculate their players` rakeback. Provided that you have known the methods used to calculate rakeback, you wouldn`t find it hard when calculating your own rakeback. It also helps the player to understand the effects of rakeback.
